After several days of eating up the kilometres between France, Germany and Denmark, this is it: we’re boarding!

1Hirtshals 8:59

The ferry leaves Hirtshals at 11:30. No sightseeing and no kilometres in the Def today: a few steps around the boat, a bit of rest and, above all, that funny feeling of telling ourselves that Iceland is finally getting closer.

Off to the ship’s bar for a drink, and that’s where we meet someone really lovely: a young Belgian guy heading off alone, backpack on, for 15 days in the Faroe Islands.

We chat about travel, adventures and plans. A completely unexpected encounter, simple and genuinely nice. That’s another thing we love about travelling: the people you bump into by chance and share a little stretch of the road with, even if it’s just for a few hours.

Nferry night

After a first night rocked to sleep by the sea, we wake up to quite an incredible sight: our first sunrise seen straight from the cabin.

Opening our eyes, looking out of the porthole and watching the sun appear above the ocean… it’s magical.

These two days at sea will have let us slow down a little after all the kilometres we’ve clocked up since France. Now the excitement is really starting to build.

Tomorrow

Morning, a very special wake-up: at 08:00, we’ll be in Iceland!
